Mastodon
Free, open-source, decentralised microblogging network of independent servers that interconnect over ActivityPub.
Mastodon is a free and open-source microblogging platform stewarded by Mastodon gGmbH, based in Berlin, Germany. Instead of one central site, it is a federation of independently run servers that interconnect over the ActivityPub protocol, so users on different servers can follow and reply to each other.
Mastodon offers chronological timelines, content warnings, granular privacy controls and no advertising or behavioural tracking, with each community setting its own moderation rules. As an EU-stewarded, openly licensed and decentralised network, it is the leading European alternative to X (formerly Twitter) and Threads.
